Airport, election on joint council agenda

16 October 2009
--

With municipal elections a thing of the past, Peter Fenwick, chairman of the South West Coast Joint Council, feels it is time to address the issues that continue to concern members of the group.

“We will be looking at the crisis at the Stephenville Airport and will be mapping out a strategy to preserve that essential infrastructure, not only for Stephenville, but for the 12 towns that make up the South West Coast Council,” he said.

Fenwick said municipalities cannot let the airport close for lack of action and the joint council will be responding to a request from both the Town of Stephenville and the local citizen’s action committee.

In addition to discussing the airport, waste management will also be addressed at a meeting Saturday.

The third item on the agenda is the election of officers for the next two years. Up for grabs will be the chairman, vice-chairman and the secretary-treasurer positions.
