Stephenville council still reviewing airport business plan

20 January 2010

Members of the Stephenville town council were still reviewing the draft copy of a business plan for Stephenville airport Tuesday.

Mayor Tom O’Brien said he expected it would still be a couple of days before the draft becomes a finished product.

The document was received at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

It has been a tumultuous couple of years for the airport in Stephenville. The airport has recently had to rely heavily on the town council for operational funding, upgrades and payroll.

This business plan, which took longer to develop than originally planned since extra auditing was required, is required by most stakeholders before they will consider providing any more financial help to the struggling facility.

“As with any business plan there will have to be some fine tuning done before it becomes the final document,” he said.

All members of the town council are looking over the 64-page document compiled by consultants from Grant Thornton. The only other person with the draft is Shawn Tilley, the chairman of the Stephenville Airport Corporation, who was expected to be looking it over starting Tuesday evening.

O’Brien said he would reserve comment on any aspects of the document until their review is completed and any adjustments that need to be made are made.
