Sunwing providing summer service; Airline will offer weekly direct flights from Stephenville to Toronto

Sunwing Airlines seems to have had a change of heart and will now be operating a once-a-week direct service from Toronto to Stephenville.

Bob Bruce, a member of the Stephenville Airport Citizens Committee, said the group was pleased to hear the announcement and hopes people will take advantage of the service.

The Wednesday service starts up on June 23 and runs to Sept. 8 with flights coming out of Toronto at 6:20 a.m. and arriving in Stephenville at 10:20 a.m. The return flight leaves Stephenville at 11:05 a.m., makes a ground stop in St. John’s and has a 2:45 p.m. arrival in Toronto.

Tony Young of Atlantic Escapes said since the announcement was made on Thursday they’ve been really busy with bookings.

He said since there is only one flight a week as opposed to two a week last year, they expect seats to sell out quickly.
